What You Will Do:

General Summary

Under general supervision, performs routine operation and maintenance of audiovisual equipment and assist in creative and technical aspects of media production.


Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.


1. Sets up and operates equipment for slide presentations, sound movies, overhead transparencies and videotapes in accordance with equipment operating departmental procedures.

A. Coordinates installation, maintenance and operation of closed circuit television system with television vendors. Assigns purchase orders, due dates and verifies satisfactory completion.

2. Assists various UMMC departments in the production of audiotapes, soundtracks, videotapes, slides and overhead transparencies by reviewing and editing scripts, operation video camera, and/or coordinating outside vendors. Uses integrated layouts, graphic titles, charts and photographics in production of media in accordance with graphic and audiovisual technique and departmental procedures.

A. Coordinates annual maintenance of conference facility with Housekeeping Hospitality Services and Facilities Management for such things as: lighting replacement or repair of faulty or unsafe equipment.

3. Performs preventative maintenance on audiovisual equipment to ensure continued operation and availability for use in accordance with departmental procedures.

4. Performs audio recording, editing, videotape recording and dubbing in accordance with departmental procedures.

5. Catalogs and maintains collection of audiovisual materials (schedule books) and equipment for Medical System employee use. Follows up to ensure timely return of equipment.

A. Receives instruction in the proper use of projection equipment lenses, production of overhead transparencies, editing of videotapes and preparation of videotape productions and in closed circuit television distribution.

6. Schedules various meeting rooms and coordinates activities with departmental sponsors.

7. Programs and monitors the Patient Education Channel.


What You Need to Be Successful:

Education and Experience

1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associate’s Degree in multi-media technology is preferred.


2. Two years experience in the operation of audiovisual equipment, or equivalent experience, is required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Ability to effectively use projection equipment lenses, production of overhead transparencies, editing of videotapes and preparation of videotape productions and in closed circuit television distribution.


2. Effective verbal communication skills are necessary. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work with various hospital personnel.
